Ticonderoga

Lake Champlain fortress

Ticonderoga is a place name most associated with Fort Ticonderoga, a strategic fortification in upstate New York that saw action in the French and Indian War and the American Revolution.

The name, from Mohawk, means something like "between two waters," referring to the fort's position between Lake Champlain and Lake George.

Ticonderoga is also a well-known brand of pencils: I always used Ticonderoga pencils in school.
