patriots
Flag-waving loyal citizens
Patriots are people who love and support their country with devoted loyalty.
The word can carry positive connotations of civic virtue or negative ones suggesting blind nationalism, depending on the speaker's perspective: True patriots defend the Constitution.
In American usage, patriots often specifically evokes the Revolutionary War colonists who fought for independence. (Capitalized Patriots usually refers to the New England NFL team.)
