New France

France's American territory

New France was the territory in North America colonized by France from the early 1600s until 1763, encompassing much of eastern Canada, the Great Lakes region, and the Mississippi River valley.

The term appears in historical contexts: The fur trade drove the economy of New France.

France ceded most of the territory to Britain after the Seven Years' War.
