Syracuse

Central New York city

Syracuse names two significant cities.

The original is an ancient Greek colony on Sicily's eastern coast, once among the most powerful cities of the Mediterranean world—home to Archimedes and site of a disastrous Athenian military expedition.

The modern Syracuse is a city in upstate New York, known for its university and harsh winters: Syracuse gets more snow than almost any major American city.
