Omaha Beach

Bloody Normandy sector

Omaha Beach is one of five beaches where Allied forces landed during the D-Day invasion of Normandy on June 6, 1944.

American troops faced the heaviest resistance there, suffering enormous casualties before establishing a beachhead.

The name has become synonymous with the costliest fighting of the invasion: The scene at Omaha Beach was chaos and carnage.
