Battle of Britain
RAF versus Luftwaffe
The Battle of Britain was the German air campaign against Britain in the summer and autumn of 1940, and the successful British defense against it.
The Royal Air Force's defeat of the Luftwaffe prevented a German invasion and marked Hitler's first major setback.
The phrase now evokes themes of resilience against overwhelming odds: We need a Battle of Britain spirit to get through this.
