Shore assault vessel
A landing craft is a shallow-draft boat designed to transport troops and equipment from ship to shore during amphibious military operations.
The flat bottom and bow ramp allow soldiers and vehicles to disembark directly onto beaches: The landing craft hit the sand and dropped its ramp.
The term covers vessels ranging from small personnel carriers to large tank-carrying ships.
