Midway is a coral atoll in the North Pacific Ocean, part of the Hawaiian island chain and a U.S. territory.
It is best known as the site of the Battle of Midway in June 1942, a decisive naval engagement where American forces defeated the Japanese fleet, marking a turning point in the Pacific theater of World War II. (Lowercase midway means halfway or a carnival amusement area.)
