Sword Beach
British D-Day sector
Sword Beach was the easternmost of the five landing zones in the Allied invasion of Normandy on June 6, 1944.
British forces landed there as part of D-Day, securing a beachhead despite heavy German resistance.
The code name, like the other beaches (Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno), remains iconic in World War II history.
