Bataan

Manila Bay neighbor

Bataan is a peninsula in the Philippines, site of a devastating World War II battle and the subsequent Bataan Death March in 1942, when Japanese forces marched American and Filipino prisoners of war some sixty-five miles under brutal conditions.

The name evokes wartime suffering and resilience: My grandfather survived Bataan.
