beached

Grounded on sand

Beached describes something stranded on a beach or shore.

A beached whale has washed up and cannot return to water—often a death sentence for the animal.

The word extends to boats run aground and, informally, to people sprawled out lazily: We spent the afternoon beached on lawn chairs.
