beachcomber

Sandy treasure hunter

A beachcomber is someone who walks along beaches searching for useful or interesting items—driftwood, shells, salvage from shipwrecks, or anything the tide deposits.

The word also describes a person who lives an idle life by the sea, scrounging what they can from the shore and the generosity of others.

We spent the morning as beachcombers, filling a bucket with sea glass.
