Gold Beach

British invasion sector

Gold Beach is a town on the southern Oregon coast, named for the gold mining that occurred along the Rogue River in the 1850s.

It also refers to one of the five Normandy landing beaches in the D-Day invasion of June 1944, where British forces came ashore.

The beach was given its code name arbitrarily, with no connection to the Oregon town.
