Judeo-Spanish

Iberian diaspora language

Judeo-Spanish is the language spoken by Sephardic Jews, descendants of those expelled from Spain in 1492.

Also called Ladino, it preserves medieval Spanish mixed with Hebrew, Turkish, and other influences from the lands where Sephardim settled.

The language is endangered today, with most speakers elderly: My grandmother still sings songs in Judeo-Spanish.
