Ladino

Iberian Jewish language

Ladino in Central American usage refers to a mestizo or Spanish-speaking person, particularly one who has adopted European cultural practices rather than indigenous ones.

The term is especially common in Guatemala, where it distinguishes the Spanish-speaking population from Maya communities: Ladino families dominated the coffee trade. (Lowercase ladino refers to the Judeo-Spanish language.)
