oral history
Recorded witness accounts
Oral history is a method of preserving the past through recorded interviews with people who lived through events.
Unlike written documents, it captures firsthand accounts, personal perspectives, and voices that might otherwise go unrecorded: The library's oral history collection documents the Great Migration.
The term also refers to the recordings themselves or the tradition of passing down knowledge through speech rather than writing.
