archives
Stored official documents
Archives are collections of historical records, documents, or other materials preserved for reference and research.
The word also refers to the place where such collections are kept: The letter was discovered in the university archives.
In computing, an archive is a file containing compressed data or a backup copy.
To archive is to store systematically for long-term preservation: archived emails, archived footage.
