Granada

Moorish palace city

Granada names several places, most famously the Spanish city in Andalusia, site of the Alhambra palace and the last Moorish stronghold to fall during the Reconquista in 1492.

Granada is also a major city in Nicaragua and appears as a place name throughout Latin America.

The word derives from Spanish for pomegranate, which appears on the city's coat of arms.
