manuscripts
Handwritten document versions
Manuscripts are documents written by hand, particularly those created before the invention of printing.
The term now extends to any author's original text before publication: She submitted her manuscript to three publishers.
In academic contexts, a manuscript is a paper under review: The manuscript was rejected by peer reviewers.
Manuscript can also function as an adjective describing handwritten items: manuscript letters, manuscript maps.
