Jewish diaspora

Exiled population worldwide

The Jewish diaspora refers to the dispersion of Jewish people outside their ancestral homeland of Israel, and to the communities they formed worldwide.

Beginning with the Babylonian exile in the 6th century BCE and accelerating after Roman conquest, Jews settled across Europe, North Africa, the Middle East, and eventually the Americas.

The Jewish diaspora maintained cultural and religious identity across centuries of displacement.
