Shoah
Jewish catastrophe term
Shoah is the Hebrew word for the Holocaust—the Nazi genocide of European Jews during World War II.
The term, meaning "catastrophe" or "destruction," is preferred by many Jews as more precise than Holocaust, which has broader meanings and religious connotations.
Yad Vashem is Israel's official memorial to the victims of the Shoah.
