Ilkhanate

Persian Mongol state

The Ilkhanate was a Mongol khanate established in Persia and surrounding regions in the 13th century, one of the successor states of the Mongol Empire after Genghis Khan's conquests.

Its rulers, called Ilkhans, governed territory spanning modern Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, and parts of Turkey until the mid-14th century.

The Ilkhanate facilitated trade along the Silk Road.
