Hellenists

Ancient Greece devotees

Hellenists were Greek-speaking Jews in the ancient world, particularly those who adopted Greek language and customs while maintaining Jewish identity.

In the New Testament, Hellenists appear as a distinct group in the early Jerusalem church, sometimes in tension with Hebrew-speaking Jews: The Hellenists complained that their widows were being neglected.

The term can also refer more broadly to admirers or students of Greek culture.
