Persephone

Demeter's abducted daughter

Persephone is a goddess in Greek mythology, daughter of Zeus and Demeter.

She was abducted by Hades to become queen of the underworld, and her mother's grief caused the earth to become barren.

The compromise—Persephone spending part of each year above ground, part below—explains the cycle of seasons.

The name appears in literature and as a given name, often suggesting themes of renewal, duality, or descent into darkness.
