Herodotus

Greek history's father

Herodotus was a Greek historian of the fifth century BCE, called the "Father of History" for writing the first systematic narrative account of past events—his *Histories* chronicling the Greco-Persian Wars.

The name invokes foundational inquiry or the origins of a discipline: He's the Herodotus of sports journalism.

Herodotean describes sweeping, digressive narrative that weaves in cultural observations and anecdotes.
