Mycenae

Ancient Peloponnese stronghold

Mycenae is an ancient Greek city in the northeastern Peloponnese, the center of Mycenaean civilization during the late Bronze Age (roughly 1600–1100 BCE).

The site is famous for its massive stone walls, the Lion Gate, and the gold artifacts discovered in its shaft graves.

Mycenaean refers to this civilization and its culture, which preceded classical Greece.
