Grateful Dead

Jerry's psychedelic ensemble

The Grateful Dead were an American rock band formed in San Francisco in 1965, known for lengthy improvisational performances blending rock, folk, blues, and psychedelia.

Their devoted followers, called Deadheads, followed the band on tour for decades.

The band's name, taken from folklore about spirits who reward those who give them proper burial, became synonymous with jam-band culture and the countercultural legacy of the 1960s: My parents were Deadheads who saw over a hundred shows.
