Half-dollar president's initials
JFK is John Fitzgerald Kennedy, the 35th President of the United States, assassinated in Dallas in 1963.
The initialism also refers to the major international airport in New York City named after him: My flight lands at JFK at midnight.
Kennedy's initials became synonymous with a particular era of American optimism and its abrupt end.
