hall of fame
Where greats belong
A hall of fame is an institution honoring distinguished individuals in a particular field, or the physical building housing such honors.
Originally referring to actual galleries with portraits and plaques, the term now often describes any recognized group of greats: She's a hall of fame coach.
Figuratively, something worthy of a hall of fame is among the best or most memorable of its kind: That excuse belongs in the hall of fame of bad excuses. (Capitalized Hall of Fame typically refers to a specific institution.)
