Summer of Love

1967 countercultural moment

The Summer of Love was the summer of 1967, when tens of thousands of young people converged on San Francisco's Haight-Ashbury district, drawn by psychedelic drugs, rock music, and countercultural ideals.

The phrase now evokes that specific moment of hippie optimism and excess, or any period of carefree hedonism: We had our own summer of love before reality set in.
