Bosporus

Europe-Asia water divide

The Bosporus is a narrow strait in northwestern Turkey that connects the Black Sea to the Sea of Marmara and separates the European and Asian portions of Istanbul.

Along with the Dardanelles to the south, it forms a critical waterway linking the Black Sea to the Mediterranean.

The strait has immense strategic and commercial importance, as it controls access between Russia and warm-water ports.

Ships pass through the Bosporus daily carrying oil and grain.
