Yangtze River

Asia's longest river

The Yangtze River is the longest river in Asia and third longest in the world, flowing nearly 4,000 miles from the Tibetan Plateau to the East China Sea near Shanghai.

It divides China into north and south regions and has shaped Chinese civilization for millennia.

The Three Gorges Dam, completed in 2006, spans it.

Also called the Chang Jiang.
