Bering Strait
Alaska-Russia water gap
The Bering Strait is the narrow passage of water separating Asia from North America, with Russia on one side and Alaska on the other.
About fifty-five miles wide at its narrowest point, it connects the Arctic Ocean to the Pacific.
During ice ages, lowered sea levels exposed a land bridge here—Beringia—across which humans first migrated to the Americas.
