Strait of Malacca
Sumatra-Malaysia shipping lane
The Strait of Malacca is a narrow waterway between the Malay Peninsula and the Indonesian island of Sumatra, connecting the Indian Ocean to the South China Sea.
One of the world's busiest shipping lanes, it serves as the primary route for oil tankers and cargo vessels traveling between East Asia and Europe or the Middle East: Much of China's oil imports pass through the Strait of Malacca.
