Attica
Greek peninsula historically
Attica is a historical region of Greece centered on Athens, the heart of ancient Greek civilization and democracy.
In American usage, Attica most often refers to the maximum-security prison in upstate New York, site of the 1971 uprising in which inmates seized control before state police retook the facility, killing 43 people.
Attica! Attica! became a rallying cry after the 1975 film *Dog Day Afternoon*.
