Doric
Simplest Greek order
Doric refers to the oldest and simplest of the three classical Greek architectural orders, characterized by sturdy columns without bases and plain, cushion-shaped capitals: The Parthenon is built in the Doric style.
Doric also designates the ancient Greek dialect of the Dorians, spoken in the Peloponnese and colonies like Syracuse.
In British usage, Doric often refers specifically to the Scots dialect of northeastern Scotland, particularly Aberdeenshire.
