Corinthian
Leafy Greek capitals
Corinthian refers to the ancient Greek city of Corinth or its people.
In architecture, a Corinthian column features an ornate capital decorated with carved acanthus leaves—the most elaborate of the three classical Greek orders.
The word once described a wealthy, fashionable man about town, particularly one devoted to amateur sport: a Corinthian spirit of athletic competition.
This sense survives mainly in the names of amateur sports clubs.
