Peloponnese

Southern Greek landmass

The Peloponnese is the large peninsula forming the southern part of mainland Greece, connected to the rest of the country by the narrow Isthmus of Corinth.

Ancient Sparta, Olympia, Corinth, and Mycenae were located here.

The name means "island of Pelops," after a figure in Greek mythology.

Also spelled Peloponnesus.
