Anglo-Indian

Empire's mixed heritage

Anglo-Indian refers to people of mixed British and Indian ancestry, or to British people who lived for extended periods in India, particularly during the colonial era.

The term also describes the distinctive culture, customs, and cuisine that emerged from this blending of British and Indian traditions.

As an adjective, it characterizes things relating to this community or to British India generally: Anglo-Indian railway terminology, Anglo-Indian cooking.

The Anglo-Indian community developed its own dialect incorporating Hindi and other Indian language elements into English.
