tiffin
Light colonial lunch
Tiffin is a light midday meal, used chiefly in British Indian English.
The word survives most visibly in the tiffin box—a stacked metal container for carrying lunch, still widely used in South Asia.
She packed rice and curry in her tiffin.
The term sounds old-fashioned outside the Indian subcontinent.
