Kipling

British colonial writer

Kipling refers to Rudyard Kipling (1865–1936), the British author best known for *The Jungle Book*, *Kim*, and poems like "If—" and "Gunga Din." He was the first English-language writer to receive the Nobel Prize in Literature (1907).

His work celebrates British imperialism and Indian settings, making him both celebrated for storytelling craft and criticized for colonialist attitudes.

The phrase the white man's burden comes from his 1899 poem of that title.
