veranda
Covered outdoor gallery
A veranda is a roofed platform along the outside of a house, typically at ground level and often partially enclosed by a railing.
It provides a sheltered outdoor space for sitting, and the word carries connotations of leisure and warm climates—verandas are especially associated with colonial architecture in tropical regions.
The term overlaps considerably with porch, though veranda often suggests something more spacious or extending along multiple sides of a building.
