warp
Twist out of shape
To warp something is to distort it, usually in an undesirable or unintended way.
Floorboards might warp (bend) if exposed to moisture.
To warp what someone has said or written is to misrepresent it.
Something that warps your perception causes you to misinterpret or misunderstand.
A warp is an instance of warping, but there is another noun warp that designates the fixed yarns or threads in a loom through which the weft is interwoven.
Warp speed originated in the Star Trek universe, and is a fictional way to travel faster than the speed of light.
