cleat

Sole traction nub

A cleat is a piece of hardware with projecting arms or ends, used to secure ropes by winding them in a figure-eight pattern: She tied off the halyard on the cleat.

On shoes, cleats are studs or spikes on the sole that grip turf or soft ground—and by extension, the shoes themselves: Don't forget your cleats for practice.

A cleat can also be a strip of wood or metal fastened to a surface to provide support or prevent slipping.
