warping
Twisting out of shape
Warping is the process of becoming bent, twisted, or distorted from an original shape—what happens to wood exposed to moisture, or to a record left in the sun.
The meaning extends to distortion of any kind: a warped sense of humor, a warped perspective.
In science fiction, warping refers to bending space-time for faster-than-light travel.
In weaving, warping is the technical process of arranging threads lengthwise on a loom before weaving begins.
