spiral arms
Milky Way's curves
Spiral arms are the luminous, curved bands of stars, gas, and dust that wind outward from the center of certain galaxies.
They give spiral galaxies their distinctive pinwheel appearance.
Our solar system sits within one of the Milky Way's spiral arms.
The arms are regions of active star formation, appearing brighter because young, hot stars concentrate there.
