heddle
Thread-lifting loop
A heddle is a looped wire or cord on a loom through which warp threads pass.
By raising or lowering sets of heddles, the weaver creates an opening (the shed) for the shuttle to pass through, allowing weft threads to interlace with warp threads.
The arrangement and sequence of heddles determines the weave pattern: She threaded each warp end through its heddle.
