galactic center

Stellar density peak

The galactic center is the rotational center of a galaxy—the point around which all its stars orbit.

In discussions of our own Milky Way, it refers to the dense region in the direction of Sagittarius, about 26,000 light-years from Earth, where a supermassive black hole anchors the galaxy's structure: Radio telescopes can peer through cosmic dust to observe the galactic center.
