warp and weft
Crossed textile threads
Warp and weft are the two components of woven fabric.
The warp threads run lengthwise, held taut on the loom; the weft threads run crosswise, interlacing over and under the warp.
Together they form the basic structure of any woven textile.
Figuratively, warp and weft describes the essential, interwoven elements of something: the warp and weft of daily life.
