warp speed
Faster than light
Warp speed is faster-than-light travel, from the propulsion system in *Star Trek* that warps spacetime to bypass the speed of light.
Outside science fiction, warp speed means extremely fast: The project moved forward at warp speed.
The phrase often emphasizes rapid progress or urgency.
